Anarchism and Anti-Colonial Struggle
Against the Settler State: Anarchism & Anti-Colonial Resistance in so-called Canada

This workshop will examine how anarchist ideology and projects relate to the wider anti-colonial struggle in so-called Canada. We will explain the importance of anti-colonial thinking for anarchists living in occupied Turtle Island (North America). We will give a brief recap of the history of colonization in so-called Canada, and will explore the different forms that anti-colonial resistance has taken – particularly in the past 25 years. Finally, we will examine the relationships and points of affinity between anarchism and revolutionary Indigenous organizing; the successes and limitations of anarchist tactics in the anti-colonial movement; and evaluate where Canadian anarchists stand at present, in the wider anti-colonial struggle, as we face the rise of reactionary right-wing populism, resurgent Canadian nationalism, and the collapse of planetary ecological systems.
